St Mark’s School, Hounslow

Scope:

  • New school sports hall.
  • Contract doubled in size at the last hour, when the original timber glue-down beams were changed to structural steel roof, while deadlines remained the same.

Challenges:

  • At a late stage, the project increased in scope from five to 85 tonnes of steel.
  • Project engineer specified splice joints in the steel trusses in keeping with the desired traditional methods and appearance.
  • All fabrication, connections, paint finishes and joints had to be flawless due to structure remaining as an exposed feature of the sports hall.
